A pump buyer does not select equipment by nameplate size alone. The required flow and pressure, fluid properties, temperature, operating cycle, installation and maintenance context all affect whether a pump is suitable. Manufacturers should make it easy for an importer, distributor or plant engineer to assess the application before requesting a formal quotation.

Organize the range by application

Group products by pump type, construction and intended duty. Identify available materials, drive and seal arrangements, connection sizes and options you actually supply. Provide model codes, dimensions, manuals and performance data where available. Make the operating conditions and limits clear, and ask for engineering review when the application is outside a standard selection range.

For chemical or process applications, request the fluid composition, concentration, temperature and other information needed to evaluate material compatibility. Do not claim suitability for a corrosive, abrasive or hazardous service without technical confirmation.

Collect the buyer’s duty requirements

Ask for flow, pressure or head, fluid properties, operating hours, installation location, power supply, control requirements, connection standard, destination and target delivery date. Confirm whether the buyer needs a pump only, a motor and base, accessories, spares, commissioning or ongoing service.

If the buyer has a technical datasheet, ask for the latest revision. Record assumptions and unresolved points in the quotation. A preliminary selection should be identified as such until the operating information is complete.

Present performance and supply terms

Share performance curves or test data only when they apply to the quoted configuration. Explain what inspection, test certificates, packing and manuals are included. State realistic production capacity and lead time, including any custom machining or assembly steps.

A useful quote specifies the model, configuration, materials, duty assumptions, quantity, currency, validity, accessories, warranty scope, delivery term and exclusions. Clarify who handles installation and after-sales support in the destination market.

Find buyers by channel

Potential prospects include pump importers, industrial distributors, plant contractors, water and process equipment integrators, OEMs and maintenance suppliers. Review their product range and target the pump families that match it. Introduce one relevant capability and offer to review the buyer’s duty sheet.
